Florence K-8 PBIS Program

The FK8 PBIS program has adapted the phrase "Be SAFE, Be KIND, Be RESPONSIBLE" This has become a cultural change with our students at Florence K-8. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Support. The purpose of this program is to enhance academic and social behavior for all students by:

            Building programs that recognize positive student behavior.
            Emphasizing the use of data for informing decisions and monitoring academic progress.
            Offer support tools and resources for teachers to better manage student behavior across the campus.

This is not a curriculum, but a decision making framework that guides the school in offering high quality, evidence based academic and behavior support to all students.

A General Overview

Gopher PAWSitives is a school-wide program based on the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Staff, parents and board members have worked closely together to develop Florence Gophers which match the principles of PBIS in a way that fits the goals, mission and culture of the Florence K-8 (FK8).

School-wide PBIS is a research-based framework that has been proven to improve school climate, reduce problem behavior, and increase academic instructional time in schools (for additional information go to www.pbis.org). Two primary areas of emphasis in PBIS are prevention and instruction of social behavior. PBIS is based on the idea that when students are taught clearly defined behavioral expectations and provided with predictable responses to their behavior, both positive and corrective, all students are more likely to meet those expectations.
